  • Spare tire for an '03 GT

So I found out the hard way that my stock spare won't clear the cobra brakes on my '03 GT during the monsoon we had on Saturday. Anyone happen to know what the biggest full size spare is that you can reasonably fit in the trunk and still be able to utilize the space?

And on that note anyone have a Cobra spare or similar size tire/wheel combo laying around they want to sell? lol

Get a cobra/mach1 spare tire. They are a 17" wheel.

How wide? Since I have to spend the money on a new rim and tire anyway, I figured Id get a normal tire wheel combo that way I wont have to limit driving due to the spare. Dont need it the same size as my others, just something more functional than than a spare

It's a spare tire that is made to clear the cobra brakes...nothing special.
If you want something full size, buy a mach/cobra rim for cheap. Wrecked cars are the best to get single rims off of.

If your thought process is to be able to run the spare for lengthy distance, then size is a factory. In the sense of overall diameter, if you run 2 different overall diameter / tire heights on the rear it will not make the differential happy. The 2 different axle speeds will play havoc on the limited slip clutches (assuming it's a trac loc car), and the spider and side gears will be spinning constantly which can add wear to the carrier and gear set.

No, Its not something I would run for what I consider lengthy milage, but for instance, I have a three day wait for my new tire to come in and would like to be able to use the car a bit because its my primary vehicle. I figure it wouldnt be to much more to buy a normal tire/rim than a brand new fullsize spare
