If it is not a warranty issue do not go to a dealership. That is my stance on it.

Always check your oil right after the dealership changes your oil too.

If I feel comfortable doing the work, I usually do it. I'm glad I did it this time. I can only imagine how much the dealer would charge to replace this valve cover gasket.

+1 for doing your own mechanic work, if its outside of warranty.
What I find amusing, is when they do the *FREE* 29-point inspection, so they can find
other things to goose your wallet.

My 2001 Chevy Silverado has over 330,000 miles and has never been back to the
dealership since the day I bought it.

Best thing I ever did, was to start doing my own car work. It has easily saved tens of
thousands of dollars, and has earned me as much doing private mechanic work.

Guys at the dealership need to make money and support their families, I respect that but
I also need to do the same thing.

There are these bolts at the bottom of the valve cover. I can probably squeeze a wrench in there to take them off but how the hell am I supposed to torque?

Universal, wiggle socket...if a no go just snug the dang thing up to approx torque, it not THAT critical like a head bolt.

OK thanks. I was thinking about disconnecting the motor mount and jacking it up since I had to remove these bolts with my finger tips.
