  • 2004 Silverado z71 (shifting gear problem)

My truck doens't seem like it's getting over 2-3 gear. I don't have the check engine light or anything like that popping up. The engine is just running a lot louder than normal. It sounds like it's also having a hard time downshifting. I have a 5.3 V8 just a fyi.

Does this sound like a solenoid problem or is my transmisson shot? Thanks guys. Anyone on here do this type of thing?

Check and smell the fluid. But probably broken.. if it was an electrical (solenoid) problem the tow haul ligjt would flash. But it may still have trans codes and not set CEL. Pm sent.

Just louder or turning faster? Give some RPM examples.. i.e. X RPMs at X mph.

^^^^ This. Does your truck have electric fans or a mechanical fan?

I don't smell any fluid at all.
My tow lights are actually on a blown fuse. It's the one that actually says tow or something like that. It only causes the dash lights on the cluster that light up the speedometer to go out. Every time I insert the fuse it will blow as soon as I actually insert it.

          It's a 2004. I'm not sure I will look this up.

I just recently replaced the water pump and took of the Serpetine belt and all of the fan housing.

I believe he meant open the hood and pull the dipstick and smell that. And you can also see if you have a mech fan or elec.

This may be part of your problem. Did the transmission issue start when the fuse started blowing.

Are you saying that @70MPH your doing 3000RPM's now or the engine wont pull past 3000RPM's? If it wont pull past 3k then you may have a fuel issue Pump or Filter.

Well when you changed the water pump did it have a mechanical fan or just thread where a fan would go. I think 2004 was a transition year for electric fans.

it for sure had the big fan. Like as in plastic. It had to be removed if that's what your asking.

Second. yes it's hovering around 2000 rpm's the entire time.

No the transmission just started like in the last couple of weeks.

                sending you a pm
