  • 2011+ 5.0 Mustang MPG

What kind of gas mileage are you getting out of your 2011 or newer 5.0 Mustang? List type of driving, trans, any mods.

I have 3000 miles on mine. Bone stock with standard trans and factory 3.55 gear upgrade. My driving is 60 %highway 40% city for work but with weekend driving probably balances out to 50/50.

Hand calculated since the my first time to fill the car up shows 22.9MPG. ( I didn't start hand calculating until my first fill up since I am not sure how "full" it was from the dealership so there are a few miles on the car not reflected in this).

The car reads 22.7 since I bought it. Trip B (which has not been reset) reads 22.2 since it drove off the assembly line. ( The car had about 35 miles of test driving when I bought it so that is where the difference between those two is.)

My trip A ( reset at every fill up) is reading 24.6 currently for this tank of gas and this is always with in +/_ .2 of what I get hand calculating on my MPG app.

My '12 is an auto, so my results are going to be different. I have 3.17's or something, coming back from San Antonio I got 32mpg's with a 72mph average. A/C on and sometimes 80 and other time 55-60 depending on the area dictated traffic. I never went WOT either, I've been twice and results were the same.
In the city, it depends if im just daily driving but I do alot of highway too, so it averages between 19-22 mpg's and there are some WOT's too, I just can't help it..

I have not had a chance to go on a "long" trip with this car but am very curious what it will get. I notice I can get better MPG by not using CC. Most of my fill up averages include a few 0-100 WOT runs... this current tank has 0. Trying to get it up to 25 mpg for my normal work commute on this tank.

Thats wierd, my car gets better mpg's with the cruise on.

THe other thing is to not reset your mpg gauge after every fill-up, its better to let it roll for several tanks to get a truer mpg average.

The cruise control wants to accelerate on every hill were my foot can just let the momentum carry the car over the hill.

I have not reset the MPG guage (reading 22.7) since I left the lot. I reset trip A (reading 24.6) every fill up. I will reset trip B (reading 22.2) at every oil change.

Not sure which year you have but the 2013's let you view 3 different MPG readings.

Ahh f*ck... you said '12 in your post. My bad.... do the 2012's have the two trip guage options in the center of the gauges?

I have a Lund tune with a manual trans. and 3.73 gears, I get around 16 mpg on average. I get about 26 when I drive on the highway. 13 when I romp on it around town.

Most of my driving is in-town with traffic. I usually see about 15 mpg.

I'm at 14.6 with 1600 miles on my '13. 95% in town, though I'm frequently at highway speeds..

I get about 19.5 mixed if I am good. Normally I am more like 18. I have had one long trip and doing between 80-90 the whole time I got 25.9 mpg in my 13. My only mods are mufflers and an mgw shifter.

Off subject but I put in some l.e.d. in my dome light yesterday if you have not done this you should it is cheap and a huge improvement over the yellow dim factory lights.

Is this as simple as just changing out bulbs?

Since the blower installation, my mileage (At least the dash readout) has been a little high. It currently shows that I'm getting 24.6 and after filling up this morning, it shows a 405 mile range to empty. I got 325 miles from the previous tank. I'm guessing 350-375 miles on a straight highway trip shouldn't be too hard to attain.
