I took mine to Mike to have him do the r-n-r as well. Screw laying on my back to pull the t-case and the trans.

No need to have a bad ass trans just to drive to work and backDed

So now basically I'm looking at trying to either replace or rebuild this thing. I'm thinking the quickest solution is to run down to a junk yard and pick one up, but I don't know how long that trans will last.
Rebuilds I've seen guys on here and on craigslist estimating between $400 and $1000 for the rebuild, then I'm stuck trying to pull this trans out, take it to them, wait for the rebuild, then go pick it back up.
And anyone have any advice on R&R'ing this trans? How bad of a job is it? Last trans swap I did was on my '96 Cobra with a T45 and BBK longtubes. Is there anything that would make this a bigger job than I'm expecting it to be?
Your broke one is a 2000 model. Look how much its worth. By the time you account for labor, parts, etc You'll be paying around 3500 dollars (if I do my own work I count the labor hours too). Repair cost vs book value of your truck vs truck age.
I would buy either a new truck or one thats 2-3 years old still under the factory warranty.

Marcus,
I did the trans in my 2000 Z71 several years ago. Bought a reman 60e and did the swap myself. Sucked ass and destroyed a weekend but i was at $1200 all in. I only owned that truck for about 5k miles but I know the current owner and he is still beating the tar out of it 5-6 years later.
And LOL at the person telling you to buy another truck.

That said the 60 can be updated to hold up. Its all about what he wants to spend, but it would be way cheaper to update the 60 than to convert to a 80.

Well I've called and got some estimates on what it's going to cost.
To have the whole thing taken to a shop and have the pull the trans, rebuild it, and put it back together I've gotten prices starting at $1800 - $2200
To pull it myself and take it to one of the guys recommended by either Crash or Buzzo I'm looking at $450-$550 plus any hard parts
And then to get one from a wrecking yard it's going to be $650-$675 plus a core.
So I guess it comes down to how much I want to spend and how quick I want it done. I'll probably just do the removal myself and have one of those dudes rebuild it. If anyone wants to help out pulling a trans give me a shout (hint hint Trey...)--Marcus

I would just go to 4L60E that is well built & drop the 4x4, With gas going up above $4.00, Your gonna get 12mpg with that 4L80 & 4WD if that & thats Hwy, I just use a truck to haul shit, To hell with all that 4x4 shit, but if you own alot of land or parents do & go through pastures, Then I could see it. But we have a old 93 Ford 4x4 that never goes off the property. Anyways, 4L80 are gas eating sumbitchs especially with 4WDGOD BLESS TEXAS
