  • Stock h-pipe

Bought a stock h pipe to replace my o/r X. Just finished the install with my dad. Took three hours and was a pain in the @#!*% ! Car sounds tame and not near as aggressive, but is going to inspection tommorrow! I'm starting to think that I should try an o/r H next!

If you can't pass with the off-road X, then you're getting your inspection done at the wrong places.

It's tame sounding because of the 4 cats. Good luck on the inspection. Drive it around for a few miles before inspection to eliminate the P1000 Readiness Code that may have popped up if you happened to have disconnected the battery.

I'm currently running a Pypes o/r H with 40 series Flowmasters dumped. You'll have to take a listen sometime. I think you'll like how much more aggressive it is over the X. I didn't like the sound of the Bassani X on my car at all.

He's in Dallas Co. and they are getting pretty anal about doing visual inspections of the mid pipe, especially on Mustangs. As they know o/r pipes are a very common mod. Places like Kwik Kar, Valvoline, Valero, etc.. will all get down and do a visual. And most of these guys can tell an o/r vs. catted pipe just from driving it around the building to do the brake test. And they'll get out and hand you the keys and say sorry. We can't help you. Every since Prestige Ford had to dish out $224,000 in fines for Clean Scans, a lot of people/shops are increasingly paranoid and playing it by the book these days.

The SLP loudmouth is obnoxiously loud. It basically just has resonators, and not true mufflers. What are you going for? Keeping it simple on the 96-2004 mod motors can net a great sound. Offroad H and 2 chamber flows. It'll be loud, and have a good deep tone. The SLP's will make your car sound like it's going full throttle at all times.

This is true. However, the Loudmouths II are a tad bit more tolerable and sound OK. If want to make noise that's the way to go. If you want to make a lot of noise and sound like a circle track car, go with one chamber Flowmasters.
