Had the same thing on my old 91. Ended up being a weak fuel pump. Found out by hooking a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve. Saw the fuel pressure was dropping.

Put a new pump in and all good!

Check fuel pressure, I agree it's a bad fuel pump

When i had a gauge hooked up to it it was around 40 and stayed.. Think it might be the coils?? Lol. Trying not to highjack the thread but i wanna get this thing running so i can sell it. And it sounded like he was having the same issue with popping through the intake.. Should i replace the coils and fuel pump??

Did getting new coils fix the problem?

Drop a 5.0 in it. Problem solved.

OK, the coil packs were a partial fix. When I removed the old ones, I found the harness connector on the rear coil pack had a big crack & some corrosion - so I thought - Oh Yes ! This is it!

So I changed them out & went for a test drive, the truck runs smoother & the part throttle stumble is gone, but the full throttle miss & popping is still there.

So as is frequently the case with a vehicle with this many miles, it has 2 problems. So I need to look at the fuel system.

I'd do a pressure test first and then change the fuel filter if the test is OK.

I'd add a crapload of dielectric grease to those harness plugs for good measure. Little preventative things can save headaches later.

run some injector cleaner through the tank

see if it helps any at all, I had a similar issue, (missing a highway speed) Ended up being a injector. not stopped up but spraying a stright stream and the plug was being flooded, I think the o2 sensor was causing the engine to lean out cause one cylinder wasn't fireing. this was on a 4.0

Man ive done fuel system cleaner, fuel presser test, new fuel filter, and mine still pops through the intake. Any Suggestions? Me and white trash have almost identical problems. Only his is a newer year. I still havent replaced the coils yet though.

on my 4.0 with the upper intake off you can see the injectors spray with the coil wire out so it won't start. I don't know if you can do that with others. if you have a engine sthescope you can check if the injectors are fireing. Mine all were but like i said, one didn't spray, it was a stream.
