Started puking again today. Went to Plano for a job interview, went to Commerce to pick up some parts, came home and changed the oil. As I was leaving the house in my girlfriends car I noticed a fresh puddle under the truck. Went and had a quick look while it was still day light, and discovered its the same fluid that was leaking before. When I got back from the store, I cranked the truck, grabbed a flashlight and crawled under it. The more I look at it, it appears to be leaking from outside of the transmission/bellhousing area. Not sure if it is the clutch line leading to the transmission or something else. Everything is so tight around the back of the engine, it is hard to see what in the hell is going on. Fluid level in the clutch master did appear to be lower than it was when I topped it off a few days ago.

This has me baffled. I have left 3 sizable puddles underneath my truck today. There is no noticable change in ANY fluid level at all. Running my finger through the fresh fluid, it is clear, thin, and oily. Brake/clutch fluid for sure. The top of the transmission bellhousing is wet with the same fluid from what I can tell. Clutch seems to be working fine, brakes seem fine.

Dude, that makes no sense! I think all you can do is clean everything as good as you can, and try to get a visual on exactly where it's coming from. Good luck.

Tell me about it! I spent the last 20 min of my lunch hour trying to figure out where the hell its coming from. Everything is so tight around the firewall it is hard to see anything leaking. I wish I had the cash to yank the motor and drop a 5.3 in it and be done with it

Its is coolant. Not sure how I didn't recognize the smell the first time around. It appears to be coming from the back of the head. Picked up an inspection mirror on my lunch break. I guess I will spend my day off trying to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. I am hoping a line or fitting, however, knowing my luck with this damn truck it will be the head gasket.

Anyone coming through here have alldata? It is the block off plate on the back of the head that is leaking. The gasket looks like it may have been damaged when the plate was installed on the new head. The multi million dollar question now is, can the plate be pulled and replaced without pulling the head off of the engine, or the engine out of the truck...

I HATE this truck with every ounce of my being. My last truck, a 2002 RCSB was great never gave me a single issue. This truck on the other hand...I am on my 3rd fuel pump, I've had a section of the injector harness replaced, had the head replaced, had a fuel injector replaced. And now, this friggin plate on the back of the head. The engineers for this truck should be taken out back and shot. IT wouldn't be a HUGE issue getting to the bolts for this plate if it wasn't for the air injection hose. I didn't see a "clean" way to drain the coolant, so I just pulled the plate off in frustration. It came off without much issue. I think I got all of the gasket pulled off of the back of the head. With a couple of small dabs of RTV, I stuck the gasket to the back of the plate and started the long process of putting in back on the head. The top two bolts went in with out a problem, bottom passenger side wasn't too bad with a little contortionism. The last bolt, bottom bolt on the drivers side, effing fell down the tiny gap between the transmission and the firewall. By this time, I needed to move the truck to clean up the mess of coolant so the dogs could be let out to go to the bathroom. Take the short trip outside of the gate (maybe 200 ft). Crawl under the truck and recover the bolt from somewhere on top of the transmission. I then spend the next 45 minutes or so trying to get the bolt threaded all of the way into the head. Once that long process was done, I went around and tightened the bolts once more. Filled the radiator with coolant, turned the key and crossed my fingers.

The grand finale...I am worse off than when I started. Coolant might as well be free flowing from the back of the head.

Got up and busy early this morning. I first tried to tighten the bolts down a bit more. After cranking the truck I realized this wasn't the issue. I looked at what parts of the gasket/seal I could see with my inspection mirror and noticed that it looked like the gasket was doubled in some places, meaning I didn't get all of the gasket material off from the previous gasket. So off comes the plate again. Then, with a razor blade, by feel, I removed the remaining bits of gasket. Ran a bead of RTV around the "new" gasket and started the long process of bolting the plate back on. Got every thing tightened back up, filled the radiator and cranked it up. No leak this time. Drove to the car wash to clean the underside up. Still going good.

Next time let the RTV cure before adding fluid.

Didn't think about that! No issues so far. There were a couple of sections of the outer layer of the gasket that had already adhered to the head, that was my reasoning for the RTV. Next up, spindles, blocks, shocks, pads and rotors. 2/3 drop over all

I might be bagging mine before too long so I may sell my stuff.

I have everything already on its way. I needed to do the brakes and finally talked myself into only tearing the front end apart once. Spindles and blocks set me back $165 shipped to my door. I will probably end up with tubular upper arms and tall ball joints before it is all said and done with. Then an 8.8 rearend and I can start working on the lsx swap
