  • Slave Cylinder?

I am not sure what the problem is. When I left the house after lunch yesterday I saw a fresh puddle of fluid under where the truck was sitting (2003 S-10). Didn't think much of it since I had splashed through a water puddle at the end of the driveway before parking. The, when I left work last night, I saw a CONSIDERABLE amount of fluid in my parking spot and up against the curb. Got out, checked the fluid, it is definitely not oil. Very thin and clear. The whole way home I'm flipping out thinking the front seal on the transmission is puking fluid. Get home, smoking the whole way because this fluid is running down onto the exhaust. Get home, get it parked and start checking it out as best I can as its past sunset. Couldn't really make any determination.

Today I get it put up on ramps and crawl under it to check it out. It only seems to lose fluid when it is running, I notice it more if I put it in first and ease the clutch out. I had the truck against some blocks so I could hold some pressure on the clutch and see if the smoke got worse, and it did.

Has anyone gone through this? Slave cylinder? input?

Just get a buddy and a regular floor jack with a board or something. No need for a proper trans jack.

Correct, dot3/4. The fluid in the reservoir has that same tint to it though. The trans is an NV5000 iirc

Though the amount of fluid coming out isnt reflected in the level in the reservoir

Wrong on the transmission. Its either NV1500 or NV3500

On the drive to work today (<5 miles with a bit of stop and go) it didn't seem to be losing any fluid. I guess its time to pick up a 17mm hex bit and check the trans fluid

If you lost that much fluid through the slave, then your clutch master cylinder should be dry. I bet it's the tranny.

This is what I'm afraid of. I'm going to check the fluid level tomorrow. Since it didn't puke any fluid today, I'm afraid that the front seal has gone bad and the fluid level is low enough that it isn't leaking anymore.
Should I be able to feel the fluid when I pull the fill plug out?

Managed to find a 17MM allen wrench today at Fastenal to remove the drain plug, pulled it when I got home and there was fluid running out of the fill hole as soon as I removed the plug. I guess it could have been fluid running down the side of the case, as I had just gotten home. I will re-check in the morning.

So at this point, the clutch reservoir is still full of fluid, The transmission appears to still be full of fluid. The fluid accumulated was definitely not oil, so I'm not real sure WTF is going on.

Wow, that's crazy. Does the oil in the tranny match the fluid you posted above?

It is definitely not fluid from the transmission. pulled the plug again and obtained a sample. Though it didn't readily flow from the case like it did yesterday, I checked it cold this morning.
