Anyone have knowledge of mid 80's Toyota trucks?

I bought a hunting/off road rig. It is a 22RE 4x4 5 speed. I bought it and had it towed to my shop(no tags). Driving it in the shop it was stumbling and back firing under load. So, I started trouble shooting and taking care of the simple things. Today I replaced cap-rotor,plugs,wires, fuel filter. I also set the valves and tried to set the timing.

Now it will start, idle really high and when the throttle is depressed it stalls. I posted on the toyota forum but damn its slow. I figured one of you might have an old truck like this.

Check the egr system, or the cat might be plugged up.

EGR is good. No vacuum leaks that I can find either. Im going to test the throttle position sensor and fuel pressure tomorrow.

I had something similar happen to mine a while back and it turned out to be a clogged fuel filter ... something to check.

no tags....how old is the fuel?

I changed the fuel filter over the weekend..that was fun. It has been sitting a while. But it will idle and rev just fine with no load. I will check the pressure next but It looks like I have to pull the intake to get to the fuel rail.
