  • PS pump

my pump has been leaking for a while and i would just refill it. I did drive it a few times with little to no fluid but the steering has always felt fine. I think i might have fixed the leak but now it wont stop whining. Did i screw up the pump? Time for a new one?

They are around $125 and simple to replace.

That's a pump but you have to swap the reservoir and pulley over.

Make sure it comes with o-rings for the reservoir before you get it.

There are 2 tools for swapping the pulley over too. I used a Duralast on the Capri, but bought the one that came with the tank.

You can buy the pump with a resevior attached. You can rent the pulley puller but you may have to buy the 6pt star socket for the bolts. Make sure you get a new seal for the pressure line fitting. It will without a doubt get destroyed coming out.

i have a new res with new rings and i AZ is just down the street. So a constant whine is a symptom of a bad pump.

Yes. Whine is bad pump if the fluid level is good.

When puttiing in the new fluid on new pump, add a bit of Ford's friction modifier in it. Also try to get all the air out of new pump before starting it. Vacuum purging is the best way, but tough to do if you do not have the proper tools. (hand vacuum pump and adapter for cap)

The CII pump is a pretty noisy pump. I rebuilt tons of them years ago.
