  • 96Gt 4R70W in a 97 Cobra

I already have the trans sitting here on the bench ready for tear down. Also have the 96Gt Auto computer with trans harness. My question, is there any easy way to get all the stock stuff to work? The pin out on Auto harness won't work on my car, or is a full man shift or a Quick 1 controller my only two realistic options?

Or can I go back to the donor car and take the complete ecu harness to save a little money...

get a baumann controller and save yourself the hassle imho. They make a great product.

Just put the same controller in my fathers 07Gt last month when we swapped in a 4R75W. It works great and easy to install/tune. Just looking at the stock harness option because of price. There controller is $450 and harness is $160 vs. $30 for a stock harness but even then its still up in the air if it will all work or not :/

Ive used a factory harness and their controller in a 98 cobra. Tied it all in at the pass firewall bulkhead like it was factory

So If I have the auto computer and the ECU harness, trans harness etc it should all work right? I know its more of a hassle with removing all my harness and swapping in the Gt junk but to save some cash it might be worth the extra work involved as I can still tune the trans and adjust shift points with the software I have etc..

gt computer wont control imrc, what are your plans?

I say use the baumann so your ecm/tune stays as it was.

Correct.. If the car has imrc delete and tune, it could work.

Lm8 ecu is another option but the baumann is the best bet.

It's a full bolt on nitrous car. egr deleted imrc deleted with short runner intake, long tubes etc etc. Have delta force software... Not the best but I can adjust just about everything. My cars a legit 97 Cobra but for some reason it currently has a 96Gt Computer according to tue box code

agreed on the Baumann, I've installed 3 and personally use 1. I think you could make all the gt stuff work, but you're going to have to do some repinning of connectors most likely as the ecm pinout if different from the cobra to gt computer. You can separate out just the transmission wiring from the gt engine harness side, the ecm harness side may have to be changed and pinout changes made to match the cobra stuff, it could be a real hassle for sure.

Yea I didn't even think about that. I figured the pin out that close to the ecu would be the same on either cars. Im going to look into it first and if its to much of a pain I will just have to put out the cash for the baumann...

The one thing I know the gt doesn't use if the knock sensor portion, I don't know if the ecm has the capability and just isn't active, or if it's not in the programming at all. There are several factors that could play a roll but that's the most prevalent I can think of quickly.
