  • 2.3L booster with big brakes.

Has anyone tried running a 2.3L brake booster with the bigger front brakes and rear disc in a 87-93 car?

I have a track only car running the 13-inch cobra front brakes, 10.5 rear disc, manual prop valve, Raybestos ST44 front pads, 255/40 200TW tires, and I think a 94/95 master cylinder. The brakes are very touchy and will lock up the fronts very easily. We're looking to stiffen up the pedal effort and we have an old 2.3L booster laying around. Has anyone ever used that setup and have any feedback? The pedal travel is fine, but it just locks up the tire way too easy IMO.

if you want to stiffen the pedal effort, try a larger bore master

93 cobra is what we have, same brakes as yours, maximum motorsports manual pedal and adaptor.

Yeah we have a sn95 booster on the car and the brake pedal feels way over assisted to everyone who drives it.

My 93 vert has cobra fronts and GTrears with stock 4cyl M/C and booster. It has great pedal feel.

I've got 13in cobra fronts, SN95 Disc rears, 94-04 booster, and 94/95 GT master cylinder and my pedal is HARD. I'm actually looking to replace it with a 94-04 Cobra master to soften it up some.

Just wanted to update this thread with the results. The only change to the original description was some 3-inch cooling ducts/plate and that the pads are actually ST43. The brakes worked perfect with this setup and the 2.3L booster. The pedal was firm, but you could feel the brakes much better and still prevent them from locking up. There was more than enough assist so that it didn't wear out your leg even after two hours of track time.

Homemade jobbers. I sketched them out of cardboard then transferred it over to some thin sheet metal. I used some short pieces (3-4 inches on each side) of 3-inch exhaust tubing that I had to squeeze down is a vice on one end to make is an oval shape where they hit the plate. The ducting is cheap dryer duct from Lowes and it is pretty used up after a weekend. As far as I can tell they worked great. Pads still looked new and the brakes were solid all weekend.
