My 2011 2wd eco avg 18 and I saw 25mpg on hiway trips. My 2012 4wd 5.0 avg 15mpg. No hiway trips yet.

Seems like the wheel hop would be more of a suspension issue than an engine issue, except when you talk about the potential difference in torque.

Don't you only get wheel hop when spinning the tires anyways? Seems like you can just go easier on the skinny pedal to eliminate it.

I would think that to address the problem properly, you would have to address flaws in the suspension design.

Damn I would have thought they did better than that. My 2012 2wd 5L gets 18-18.5mpg to and from work which is a city commute for me.

Are those both 2wd trucks? Here in Ks you can't get by the winter with a 2wd worth a shit. My pops has a platinum 4x4 w/ the ecoboost. He get's14-15 mixed driving, slightly more city. Taken it strictly Hwy and 17 is about the best it has done. Plus my dad drives like a huge pussy trying to get the best MPG possible.

He already wishes he would have gotten the 5.0 because it wasn't worth the extra grand from the ecoboost to get the same or worse MPG

It might be possible to get what you're saying in a 2wd and just the extended cab... not buying 20mpg for a 4x4 and super-crew cab

That said, it CAN get decent mileage cruising at a lower speed on the highway and they do have some strong towing/pulling power, so overall it's a nice engine.
This is the truth. Too many people are full of shit when it comes to telling you their mileage.

              We have 2 2012 fx4 5.0. Both suck the gas. Traded in a 2010 4wd with 5.4 and it avg 17.5mpg.

I love my 2013 Ecoboost, I got 16.5mpg towing a 5000lb trailer from Houston to dallas, I was blown away. I am avg 19.5 right now with 3k miles on the clock and the MPG keeps getting better. The power when towing is AWESOME.

                  2wd???

i was unaware when i purchased my 2012 fx4, that they had a steeper gear than that of the platnium or reg. 4x4, I get right at 16-17 (ecoboost), if you baby it and drive 60-65 it will get around 18.5 - 19,.....now a friend has the same truck, but as a platnium, and he gets 20-22 on the highway......my wifes 2012 fx2 5.0 gets 19mpg in town and 21 on hwy, but she is a calm driver......my 2012 5.0 single cab will get about the same as the fx2, just not as calm of a driver or it might do better

2wd, 3.15 gear, crew cab 5.5bed, I always set the cruise to 66mph on the highway, the trailer mileage was same mph. The gas pedal is very touchy on these, I use the hell out of the mpg info screen, try to use cruise as much as possible.

My truck is a 4x4 with 3.55 gears. It seems the ecoboost likes this gear ratio the best and I did my research before hand. That's why I bought it. Everyone that went with the 3.73 claims their truck's gas mileage isn't as good. I also only use shell gas. Stay away from that cheap walmart stuff.

the fx4 has 373 gears, quite a bit of difference

Yeah every little bit helps. I also decided to go 3:55 instead of 3:73 because you are forced to get the electronic locking rear end with the 3:73 and all I heard was complaints about those.
