Seems like the wheel hop would be more of a suspension issue than an engine issue, except when you talk about the potential difference in torque.
Don't you only get wheel hop when spinning the tires anyways? Seems like you can just go easier on the skinny pedal to eliminate it.
I would think that to address the problem properly, you would have to address flaws in the suspension design.

He already wishes he would have gotten the 5.0 because it wasn't worth the extra grand from the ecoboost to get the same or worse MPG
It might be possible to get what you're saying in a 2wd and just the extended cab... not buying 20mpg for a 4x4 and super-crew cab

That said, it CAN get decent mileage cruising at a lower speed on the highway and they do have some strong towing/pulling power, so overall it's a nice engine.

We have 2 2012 fx4 5.0. Both suck the gas. Traded in a 2010 4wd with 5.4 and it avg 17.5mpg.

I love my 2013 Ecoboost, I got 16.5mpg towing a 5000lb trailer from Houston to dallas, I was blown away. I am avg 19.5 right now with 3k miles on the clock and the MPG keeps getting better. The power when towing is AWESOME.Interested in being a VIP member and donating to the site? Click here http://dfwmustangs.net/forums/payments.php

i was unaware when i purchased my 2012 fx4, that they had a steeper gear than that of the platnium or reg. 4x4, I get right at 16-17 (ecoboost), if you baby it and drive 60-65 it will get around 18.5 - 19,.....now a friend has the same truck, but as a platnium, and he gets 20-22 on the highway......my wifes 2012 fx2 5.0 gets 19mpg in town and 21 on hwy, but she is a calm driver......my 2012 5.0 single cab will get about the same as the fx2, just not as calm of a driver or it might do better

My truck is a 4x4 with 3.55 gears. It seems the ecoboost likes this gear ratio the best and I did my research before hand. That's why I bought it. Everyone that went with the 3.73 claims their truck's gas mileage isn't as good. I also only use shell gas. Stay away from that cheap walmart stuff.
