You can pull the timing cover with the water pump attached.

If you are looking to gain a couple of horses, just bolt on a set of 1.72 rockers. You will gain some additional lift which will pull more on the top end. That is ALOT easier than a b-cam swap for about the same hp. gain. Plus there will be no surging.
