  • Transmission help.

I was driving home from work today and as soon as my car tried to shift into high gear on the highway it made a weird squealing noise and didn't want to go anywhere when I accelerated. I pulled over put in park then back in drive. Still squealed but not as much. Drove fine in 1st and 2nd but as soon as it went to high gear it just squealed and went nowhere with acceleration. Car is my daily it a 2000 mustang v6 auto. Is the tranny completely done? I believe its a 4r70w but not too sure. If its done will any 4r70w fit or is it Mustang and year specific? How hard is it to swap without a lift?

Probably not. Any CEL? 4r70w's are a dime a dozen. Be ready to spend $100 on fluid though. Shit ain't cheap.

eh, dexron III and a bottle of lubriguard to convert to mercon V, lubriguard should be @ $12 a bottle, you'll need 1 bottle.

I even went as far as to install a drain plug in my pan because I knew I would be pulling the trans out again, and I wanted my fluid back lol.

I appreciate it. I limped it back to my shop and got the shop truck and trailer to tow it home.

I'd say with the noise concern and "neutraling" issue its most likely internal. My understanding is that the v6 and 302 4r70s interchange, all the mod motors have a different bellhousing design.
