Transmission Problems on a 2003 Dodge Stratus

My GF loaned her car to her mom and it left her stranded in a parking lot and wouldn't go forward or reverse. She told me that it looked to have left a puddle of transmission fluid on her grandfather's drive way but when I checked the level it was fine. Got it towed to her house and it will move forward but barely and won't do reverse at all. Got it towed to a repair shop that her grandfather uses and they said it's the transmission and it needs to be replaced.

I know it's possible that it could be the transmission but it's weird how it gave out all of a sudden. GF also mentioned that while it was sitting at her house it started having problems starting similar to when her ignition switch when out the last time. Is it possible that they are related somehow? Her transmission problem and maybe an ignition switch going out?

Being it's a 10 year old dodge product. I wouldn't waste the money fixing it.
