Whining from rear end?

I don't hear it when going when but I slow down I hear whining from the rear end somewhere.

Is that my gears dying on me?

Almost at 39,000 miles. Have not seen any leaks

I would start with a diff fluid change and add some limited slip friction modifier.

I was thinking the same thing actually, plus now I can go ahead and buy some 3.73's and a couple other things in hopes it fixes everything

I know a guy that doesn't do anything. He just puts the gears in. No rebuild kit, no dial indicator. Just puts 'em in. What does he care anyway? He'll either destroy the vehicle or sell it by the the time he ever noticed the whine or had problems.
