  • why me?

Got my car together, and the starter falls out. The top ear was broke off and gone. 1 bolt was holding it in. Got a new starter in and new bolts and all is good, till it gets warmed. Went to take it for a spin and it starts over heating and smoking like crazy. Not what to think. We are going to re-torque the head bolts and go from there. The heads looked perfect, so really hoping its not them. A friend says if that doesn't work, it might be the block.

Maybe the head gaskets are backwards

I Dont think its the block, as it was fine before the head swap right? Or was this the reason for changing the heads?

Its either a install problem, or something is up in the used heads you got.

Oil in the water? Compression check?

      Hope its simple jason.

I hope so too, Jason. I changed the heads cuz I was changing the gaskets and wanted to do while the heads were off. Gonna try re-torquing the bolts first

What type of head bolts did you use? I really dont think re torquing them is gonna help anything.

They recommend checking them on aluminum heads, but i usually just do it after a heat cycle.
