  • What else is missing

Thought this might be worthy of a thread.

As per recommendations of people who I would consider to be "in the know", I bought these two items to build my bang for the buck car audio system:

    And this amp:

That stuff will be going in my 2006 Lincoln LS. That speaker kit, will take care of the front. The kit says that it comes with 2 "woofers" and two tweeters. Am I missing anything? Are those "woofers" going to be handling my mid-range?

If so, should I buy the exact same speaker kit for the rear of the car? Something to go underneath the rear glass or in the doors like the car came with from the factory? Or do I need a different type of speaker to go there? Something that isn't a "woofer" or a tweeter? I'm afraid my knowledge of proper setup is quite limited.

I would just do 2pr 5x7 coax (alpine, JL, Focal) and I'm sure that amp is ok for a basic 4ch.

Looked at focals and they're expensive!

But thanks for the reply. I got the same answer on another place I asked. Is there any reason to do coaxials instead of just getting buying the same kit again? I can afford the same kit for the rear. I heard that components typically have better sound quality and that's what I'm going for. Best sound quality I can get in bang for the buck fashion.

If not, which set of JL's would you recommend? I've had bad luck with alpines and focals are a bit too rich for my blood. Never tried the JL's yet.

A 5 1/4" chinese component is going to have no low midrange-midbass output and take more parts and labor to install. Make it easy on yourself. PM sent.

Ok thanks for all of your help. Now I'd like to ask you about speaker wire. I know that I need larger diameter speaker wire than the car came with, but is it all created equal? Some have said that the shielding on speaker wire can vary in quality, and thus it can pick up noise that you don't want it to. Is there any particular wire that you would recommend? Any that you would stay away from?

They're a good brand I can trust them. EW I bought the JL speakers you recommended. Amazon has them on sale for $89 so I jumped on it.

If I supply the wire, the speakers, the amp...

What should I look to pay for the install? Again 06 LS. Lots of shops around, don't want to get ripped off. Gotta be budget minded on this one.

As long as you're cool with no warranty and the serial numbers removed because of shady transshipping, cool.

You do not need to replace the speaker wire and you will not hear a difference but if it is easy to get wire through the boot, may as well. You will not have radiated noise through the speaker wire unless you run the wire right next to a computer in the car. Noise is really not an issue in 99% of today's cars with good equipment. We use basic RCAs on most systems and have no noise problems.
