  • what spring rate for coilovers

    Like the title says.

81 zephyr lsx/turbo. Really need to order the k member soon.

It will see more street duty than track duty.

Stiffer is better but the springs are cheap. Get a couple sets. I dunno what a zephyr is though. Fairmont?

Depending on weight of the car, Id go with some 275s front and 175 rears... Thats what my dad's GR40 has on it and it rides and handles great.

As it sits right now in stock form its 2500. IM thinking after the swap itll be close to 3000.

whoa shit.. 275's are WAY heavy for an aluminum LSx block on the front of a fox (assuming it's aluminum?). I'd say some where near 175-200.

There's no 'right way' to really say without scaling the car though.

FWIW, mine are 150's with an iron eagle 8.2" motor and they are a bit too light.

itll prob be the iron blocked 5.3 as thats what i have more available to me in my neck of the woods. If i come across a aluminum motor ill jump on it, but thats highly unlikely.

Ill prob call team z and see if they offer a 175.

well I have an Alluminum motor and it still weighs 3600 or so

Id suggest 175-200s if it weighs only 3K

ha, I was talking bout the vert... it has aluminum wheels, shit, I dont rock the steelies, but it does have large brakes which weigh like heavy wheels, and a 300 lb stereo.

I hope the 86 weighs closer to 3400 with me in it.

i'm sure everyone in here knows this, but wheels and brakes are unsprung weight so they shouldn't be factored in to what spring rate you need.

1200 lb on the fronts, car weight 1575. 39% on the nose, the heave spring that mounts the front rockers is substantially stiffer
