  • Hard Time Starting Car After Battery Relocated

I relocated my battery some time ago to the trunk on my fox body. It's starts right up when it has been sitting for a while but if I'm driving it around & turn it off it kind of drags to start back up. Kind of like the battery is not completely charged. The battery is pretty new too. I installed a 3G alternator off a newer mustang but was wondering if I need one with more Amps. What do you guys think?

    Thanks!

Do you have it grounded properly?

I had the same problem, add a engine ground.

You need a bigger cable from the battery.

How do I tell if it is grounded properly? Had a buddy/shop do it when he did some other work on it.

How would I go about adding a engine ground?

I have no idea when it comes to electrical work at all. Sorry fellas if these are dumb questions.

            Sounds like a ground problem.

You need a bigger chargewire from the alternator harness.

                Try jumper cables

I had the same issue. It's a ground problem. Make sure your battery ground is solid to the frame.

The fox harnesses will not handle the AMPs from the 130amp alternator for one. Second, you need to make sure you have a good ground from engine to chassis and a good ground from battery to chassis.

I ran a solid ground from the battery all the way to the front of the car and broke it off to ground the motor, chassis, and ground studs for all my other electronics that need grounds.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

what size wire did you use to the battery?

did you ground it at the back or where?

I believe it is grounded at the back. I'll have to check tomorrow.

                            This.

Make sure 0AWG or bigger, and same size ground in the rear, and another on the engine block to frame.

most likely a ground issue. most vehicles have two grounds. Mine was to the engine and the other was a ground under the battery.
