  • problem with an 06 Dodge Diesel

Father inlaw has an o6 dodge diesel with standard tranny. When you are accelerating the truck just hesitates and bucks.....you pump the gas and it kicks it back in. So, like i said, you push on the gas and then it bucks like it gets no gas....and then it will kick back in.
Maybe an electronic throttle or something?

      Any codes? CES light?

Could be any number of things. How many miles?

Could be dirty fuel filter(been changed recently), sticking FCA, etc

          What throttle?

Its a diesel. Theres a pedal position sensor(since its electric, no more cable) but there is no throttle body, lol.

Does it idle fine otherwise? or just when starting off under load?

            idles fine. just when driving.

just ordered the throttle position sensor and it will be here tomorrow. I changed a tps out on my mustang but not a diesel......so now i am gonna google where it is and what to do. looks easy enough. 2 screws and unplug a connector.

APPS is on the pedal on that truck. Did you test it or are you just throwing parts at this thing? because throwing parts at it is going to get expensive quickly

Id have started with fuel pump/fuel filter... these motors can pull some fuel when the pump is bad but probably wont run.

So far the only thing I have done is call a buddy that has fixed a fuckload of vehicles and has always had the answer for me when working on stuff. I ordered a new tps for it today. it was less than $40 so that is where we will start.

I worked on plenty of diesels on the barges and it is not acting like a fuel pump/filter at all. we shall see

Fuel pumps are notorious on these trucks

well that will be my next thing to check if the tps doesnt work. I cant really do anything mechanical right now cuase of the surgery i just had but if it is easy enough i am gonna just talk my inlaw thru swapping it.

fuel pump involves dropping the tank...it sucks. The key is to jump under the truck and see if you can at least hear it prime when turning the key on

If you have to crawl under it to hear it ,its probably not working . Should be able to hear it with the door open/window down .
