Considering it's a job I really only want to do once, I don't mind spending extra to get a real Motorcraft part. Have to figure the first one lasted 20+years, why mess around with a crappy piece that might fail in a year or two.
Thanks for the input folks. I agree, I think I'll go with the FoMoCo core. I just want to replace the restrictor, as I'm replacing everything else. I did this job 2 years ago, and no one had a core but O'riellys. Thought, how bad can they be? Installed it in the name of getting the car on the road. Lesson learned, I guess.
Napa core works fine. Fomoco is preferred. Fox heater core is a cake job. Takes a couple hours tops. No need to evac the ac
I've done it quite a few times now. I make it harder than it needs to be, pulling the dash, pulling the box, evacing the A/C, etc. I don't want to have to cut anything. This time, I'll be installing dynamat on the firewall, so gaining access is preferable. I have plenty of freon, so its not a big deal.
