  • eff Oreilly's!!

Well, I previously said "Fuck broreally's and vatozone for difficult to access parts."

Sure enough, my brother's '99 suffered a failure due to their cheap china parts that are assembled by a starving 8 year old kid in a sweat shop.

I installed the new steeda quadrant, cable, and firewall adjuster a few minutes ago. We put this in just to eliminate the easy things first (For those of you who don't know, it had a bad chirping sound and the thing wouldn't go into gear....after having a new throwout bearing and pilot bearing installed)
Once it was put in and adjusted, the thing sounded healthy, and the chirping greatly reduced. I took it on a test drive around the "country" block (about 1 mile). Suddenly, the poor transmission screamed "RAPE!!!" and red hot bearings came jingling out of the clutch fork hole....

The car was not going into gear and it sounded horrible, so I pushed in the clutch....it was useless. Pieces of the throwout bearing kept falling out, so I started the car up in gear and granny shifted home.

    The end.

The only way to replace a throwout bearing on a mod motor with BBK LT headers is to pull the motor...correct?

It's a flip of the coin these days with quality. If you find something better, chances are it is luck, not brand. Goes for quite a few parts on the shelf.

Some ive noticed are made from plastic, and if you catch one that's been on the shelf a while it's made from metal. Also most of the ones found in the clutch kits are metal, and the individual timken or housebrand is a random like talisman posted.

If you would have got on latemodel and gotten the ford racing from the get go, like suggested you wouldn't be in this boat.

I have a timken (metal) throwout bearing in my car, and it's been good for over a year now. If I ever need another it will be a ford one.

If you turds need help pulling motor, or loosening the LT I'll help you guys out.

You do have access to good parts at those stores. Timken or federal for bearings. And I would assume one of those companies make the Oem parts for ford.

From what I've gathered timken is oem for GM.

I could be wrong, but timken is good stuff. I use/recommend it over the duralast.

                          I work at the zone.

Like talisman said, it's really a crap shoot nowadays. Even with identical part numbers and manufacturers, you get two different parts. A large majority of remanufactured come from Mexico, and aren't all that bad.

I've had better luck with local chain stores than Dallas Mustang. They sell the cheapest shit, and 2 out of 3 times a part is junk out of the box, regardless of manufacturer or origin. They must get the shit end of the stick from all their suppliers.
