  • When I found a hose clamp melted between my cylinder's wall and piston on my 79K original 302, I knew I had got screwed by a performance shop. I knew something wasn't right when I left Texas Jam that night because the car was overheating. I figured it was air pockets from the intake swap. Left it like that for a month before I actually decided to tear it down. Boy was I piss, when I went back to talk to them, The hot rod store had bought them out. I explained my situation to them but they couldn't do anything about it. Shit I even brought them the trw piston show them the damage.

Murillo himself didn't do the intake swap, it was his mechanic Mike. I became great friends with the sale rep from the hot rod store and told me that murillo's mechanic would go by to ask for work. So one time, I was hanging out, Mike walks into the hot rod store to bullshit and then Sales Rep Jared pulls the piston out. He then says "Take a look at the damage you did to Solis car" dude was caught off guard and right away denied it wasn't him. Really! I know he didn't forget my face or car in four months.

It's better to speak up now than later. Sorry folks I have insomnia and had caffeine kinda late, I can't seem to stfu lol!

    • I have an offer for TS and TJ.

I'd be glad to meet up with Clint and Chris, and mediate a conversation between the two of you, so you guys can come to a resolution and put this behind you.

If not, please carry on. It's just an offer.

        • Well here is what I have gathered from this.

TS blames the Engine shop for Engine Vibration

TJ says they forgot to install the Dowl Pins when they installed the motor which is why the motor vibrated.

TJ pays to have the trans taken out & the Flywheel looked at & at which point his guys points out there is no Dowl Pins.

TJ installs Dowl Pins & now motor runs great no Vibrations

It being a well Rep Shop I hate to take sides here. But from the sounds of this. TrueStreet should have installed Dowl Pins in the flywheel when they installed the motor.

$5400 should have covered Dowl Pins!

          • I'm up for anything that might resolve this. After rereading some of it, it got me wondering if true street didn't want to look at the flywheel because it did infact, take me a little longer to pay them off. Or if they didn't want to make it right because in their eyes, they had already put in enough work on my car, which was "a heaping mess delivered in boxes" or something to that affect

If this is true then I agree with you. That being said there is not proof that TS didn't put them in. It's he said she said situation. Makes it tough to come to a resolution in that case. Also you would almost be guaranteed to have clutch and flywheel damage if the pins had actually been left out. TJ states no clutch or flywheel damage was present when the transmission was removed. Has the shop that removed the transmission for TJ been named yet?

I think the mediation idea is a great one.

We can wait and see what Clint says, and go from there. I'm open any time over the weekend or evenings.

It is a he said, she said except that there is a whole other shop that actually did the work. Why would the other shop lie to me and tell me it was just the dowels. Wouldn't the shop benefit more by saying, I need a clutch, pp, etc?

So all your replaced was dowl Pins & the shop just charged you for the labor of pulling the trans & putting it back in?

This is a He said She said Deal!

But this looks bad on TS since it appears to be a simple mistake. Which is fine! Mistakes happen. But the customer shouldnt have to foot the bill for a mistake the shop made.

I think TS should give you $600 credit towards labor & turn the whole Lemons in to Lemonade as Im sure they would recieve future business from you & not to mention earn alot of respect!

I think you read it wrong, or I posted it wrong, my invoice says that they placed missing dowels.

                        • I'll always wonder if the shop would have admitted to it being something simple like the dowel pins. Obviously TJ never would have known the difference.
The best possible scenario was talking it to an outside shop to have the problem diagnosed and corrected.

Again if TS is in the wrong and can be proven then I agree with you.

However the damage has been done to the TS reputation and even if the OP gets a credit on his bill that likely won't reverse the damage done. In fact could make it worse. If they pay out then they admitted guilt after lying about it. Which IMO is worse in the end.

Most wouldn't if they went the wrong direction in the diagnose.
