after a while of the car sitting and me saving i get the money together to get another shop to look at the car. this is where we see things like the oil leak i had gushing from the rear main seal
and we see my clutch fork had been damaged and might explain the problem they had on the dyno
when the mechanic is pulling the tranny back we see my thow out bearing destroyed
and of course the flywheel itself with out any dowel pins in
a little oil had spilt and attempted to wipe down and clean off with some brake cleaner but it would be fine since i paid for everything to be powder coated.
nope it was painted
Oh yeah dowel pins missing from the flywheel is deff the shops deal. Anything inside that shortblock isnt, that is what I was trying to figure out. Carry on.....
What was wrong with the clutch related parts aside from the dowel pins?
Mr Edd, you really need to learn how to work on your own shit.
i know, i will never build another car since i cant do it myself. This isnt about a mistake though. those happen. its about making it right. that is the true showing of a businesses colors.
im still hopefull
so the mechanic is pointing out small stuff like how one bolt on the bell housing is too long and has bottomed out before it get tight and he moves the braided fuel line and FUEL comes spraying out from the fuel systems i bought from them and paid to have installed (video coming soon)
there is so much more like having my car ready to pick up and me driving the 1.5 hrs to get there to find they rolled it out for me to pick up with out putting it back together (radiator, belt, fan, hoses, etc) and more other problems but i am trying to keep this is organized as possible
You know, there are always gonna be mishaps with any shop and people will have their good experiences and bad experiences to share with others. When it comes down to it, good workmanship or not, when those mistakes are made regardless of the cause and the shop is at fault, how you handle up on your business afterwards is what is going to keep people coming in your door, or having them look for another shop. I'm not a Dallas resident, but you hear alot of good and bad about all the shops on the web. I'm not sure I would have handled it the way TEAMJACOB handled it, but I will never go to True Street because it doesn't seem like Clint stood by his shop's work or took the time to truly research the issue(s) without playing the blame game to try to get his shop off the hook and not out the extra costs. Poor customer service speaks for itself.
so monday i send clint a pm, nothing nasty just to the point.

I hope that you can see where I'm coming from and can help me out. I am not one of these baller customers you have that have deep deep pockets, but i do love cars and being around the hobby. I know my $5400 bill is probably chump change compared to some of the customers you have but I did everything possible to make right on getting you guys paid and I would be the happiest guy if you guys did what ever had to be done to get my car right. If you'll consider it, please call me anytime at 817 938 7538.
thank you very much
chris
This is a very unfortunate situation. You brought us a car with a bunch of parts in boxes and a motor partially assembled. We pieced it back together and got you done. When the car came back I was told that there was an issue with it throwing all the bolts off the front of the motor (fan, water pump bolts, alternator ect.) I have seen this before and it is 9 times out of 10 its bad machine work. We removed the balancer and installed a new one to make sure. The new balancer was just as bad. So here's the deal we are in. We looked over the motor when you first brought it to. All seemed to be fine and we installed the motor. Now there is a problem with the motor and our educated guess is the machine work was not balanced correctly. Unfortunately, balancing is only something a machinist could properly check(In our opinion;this is what is causing the vibrations). This is nothing we did or could do since we are not a machine shop. You had this work done at another shop and paid for it there. The work we performed was done to specification. For us as a shop to take your car back apart for free for poor work that another shop did and we have no control over and have no idea who you used to preform the work would not be something we would be willing to do since all work preformed by us has nothing to do with bad machine work. If I was in your shoes I would be asking the place you had do the machining step up and pay for the car to be taking back apart so they can do their job correctly. I really hate when things like this happen. If you would like please give me a call and i would be happy to discuss further
Clint Davis
clint, i wanted to follow up with you to see what you are willing to do to help make all this right in regards to my motor having a vibration. please let me know. thank you very much
We need to get the car apart to see what is wrong with it, As far as help like I said before we will work with you to help but since this is not something we built, balance, (the motor) There will be a charge. Normally we charge $1500 to remove and install. I will do it for $900 and 450 (normaly $600) to tear motor apart and put it back together to try and help. From there we will have to see what kind of damage is done to the motor and what it is going to cost to fix (machine work, bearing, fluids ect) Let me know and we will get this on the board
Clint[/QUOTE I appreciate it Clint. That's a total of 1350 for all labor and there will be additional costs for bearings and fluids. Are gaskets included in the price? Gaskets will also be a little extra Also how much is machine work typically? It will really depend on whats all wrong, It could be $800-$1500 Are there any other costs I need to consider? Lastly, with you guys sourcing the machine work to ya'lls guy and then redoing the build again from the ground up, will you guys back the work if there is issue including the machine work ? Yes sir, we stand behind all that we handle.[/QUOTE]
So I'm sure you've seen the thread and I have more pics if you need them. You guys didn't put the dowels in my flywheel and this is why I had the vibration. The car is smooth now. Are you willing to reimburse me for my expenses?
i didnt here from him, i made a thread that was basically a copy and paste of above and kyle deleted it for the time being(i understand why)
someone else made a thread in the smack and toby, (blackpony) posted in it so I know the shop is aware of the situation. I asked toby, if this jarred his memory at all.

Toby, Clint hasn't posted or pm'd me and I know he sick according to Tim. You built my motor and personally installed. Surely, not putting the dowels in has rang a bell by now. Lets just solve the problem vs trying to do damage control.
but i havent heard from him either.
truestreet is closed on monday, so i called yesterday and clint is out sick, so i called again today and tim says he isnt aware of the situation and clint is busy with another customer and this was at 10 am and i havent heard from anybody yet

this is the problem. knowing what we know now. If he didnt take on the easy and convenient position of "the short block is the only thing we didnt do, so by default, that is where the problem is since my shop does EVERYTHING by spec."
In my recorded phone call I ask him again to maybe back the tranny off and have a look but they refused. Being as it stands, I should be reimbursed what I have had to pay to get another shop to do what they should have
