My '05 F250 with about 95k miles is acting up. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed it was running through a lot of coolant, and it wasn't leaking onto my driveway. Then, a few days ago, when I started it, it blew out a lot of bright white smoke for a couple of minutes. After driving a couple hundred yards, it stopped blowing smoke and ran fine. Then today on my way to work there were a few times where it wasn't accelerating when I pushed the gas. No bucking or noise, just revs with no go. Whenever it did this, it would blow lots of gray and dirty white smoke. It did this a few times, but I made it to work. The guages are fine and no lights are on.

I know squat about these engines, and not a whole lot about motors in general. But I am guessing that my coolant is going into the motor. Blown gasket? Worse?

Are these common symptoms that point to something, and how bad is it?

I guess I also need recommendations for a good diesel mechanic, otherwise I will just take it to the dealership. It has an aftermarket warranty, but I don't know if it will cover everything.

Oh, and the bastard only gets 12 mpg, and I drive it like a granny.

Just get a Sinister EGR delete and be done w/ it.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

Where do I get one of these, around how much are they, and is it difficult to install?

Should that fix the issues I'm having? Is it gonna screw anything up if I keep driving it until I get this done?

Any good shop recommendations? Close to mid-cities area would be ideal.

          Thanks!

Def the EGR Cooler, they are prone to cracking and leaking internally, I would suggest to just do an Egr Cooler Delete and never worry about it again.

Good to know that this is a common issue that can be easily fixed. Thanks guys! SBFORDTECH, I left you a message and replied to your PM. Hope to connect with you soon.

The truck did fine on my lunch break today. Is it okay to limp around until I can get this done, or am I risking serious damage?

EGR Delete kit, or you can DIY version. Weld both "exhaust" ends of the cooler and take the scoop out of the up-pipe(04.5 and up). Leave your factory EGR valve hooked up and in the truck and you won't throw any codes, it will still look 100% legal when emissions does come to diesels.

While you are at it, clean the turbo.

If you don't have a gauges, have someone check your delta between EOT and ECT. Anything over 15 degrees while cruising down the highway unloaded needs the oil cooler replaced. It is located under the intake manifold so it's right where you need to be for the EGR problem. The ford GOLD coolant with silicate clogs the oil cooler over time. I just put gauges on my 03 and noticed my delta is nearly 45 degrees... oil is up around 230° while coolant is at 180°.

There are a few other little cheap mods you might want to do. Doing the fuel regulator spring update from Ford along with 6.4L banjo bolts is a good idea to keep your injectors living a long time.

Also something that works WONDERS on these 6.0's is RevX oil additive. I've always thought additives were snake oil, but way to many people vouched for it so I gave it a try and I'm a firm believer of the product. My truck instantly idled smoother and runs so much smoother on cold mornings.

Do you have the latest flash on your truck? It's known as the MPG killer.... After cleaning my EGR valve, 4" MBRP exhaust, and rev x, I can pull nearly 20.5mpg hand calculated on the highway cruising between 70-75mph. Around town I get about 15mpg as long as I use the "2000rpm" rule.

                          Thanks for the info.

I have no idea what Flash it has on it. I bought it used in June. It's been fine until now, except for the gas mileage.

Fuel mileage if you put gas in it that is a problem.
