  • Dowels

Not sure of the spelling. Are they optional when putting the flywheel etc back in the car?

You referring to the dowels between block/bellhousing. If so they need to be in.

Not optional. Pressure plate needs them to be there or else it will more than likely it will have a nasty vibration.

Did you just find your vibration problem?

The dowels not only center the pressure plate but they actually keep it in place. All the bolts do is keep things tight. Run the dowels or deal with the consequences in short order.

I hope so. With tranny out, motor was ice smooth up to as high as you wanted to go. No dowels on the flywheel. Just sucks the shop refused to even look at it again without charging me another 1500 to pull the motor because their shop "does everything to spec"

I thought they were not optional but since a professional put the motor in without them, i was second guessing myself.

You should have been able to inspect for dowels w/o pulling the tranny.

Thanks I don't know how you saw that. Shop swore up and down there was no way it could be anything other than the balance of the motor so we pulled the tyranny off to see what it felt like with just the motor spinning

Guess the next test is put the PP back on with dowels and see how it feels, if it still feels like shit then the PP is way out of balance.

The only way you can avoid them is with a shouldered bolt and a recessed hole. You have to have one or the other designed into the clutch and flywheel combo. Other wise, its going to come a part sooner or later.
