  • 1991 Coupe...4 Cylinder to V8 Swap

So I recently purchased a 91 coupe that had been converted to a V8. Like any other car that is 21 years old, it has character!

I am having the following issues and need some help.

    1) Car started each morning and after work, but after I let it sit for a week while it was apart, it will only start when I jump start it. Doug and I thought that maybe the POS battery cable was the problem (not getting battery fully charged) so I changed that and it still does the same thing. I am thinking the battery may be bad, but when I put a voltmeter on it, it shows 13.2 volts.

    2) The car will not idle unless it has 70PSI of fuel pressure. I have tried to adjust the FP regulator to 40 PSI and it shakes so violently and then dies. If you restart it, it will run for a minute (although rough) and then die again. Turn the pressure back to 70 PSI and the thing idles okay. Someone told me that the 'S' hose that goes from the Fuel Pump Bracket to the Pump may be loose, split, or not fully on the pump. All I know if that this is the most annoying thing!

    3) Car was most likey a AOD car and there is a sensor that comes out on the same wiring harness as the Vehicle Speed Sensor. The car now has a TKO in it and unless that sensor for the AOD is plugged in, the car will not turn over. If you plug that sensor in, it turns over fine, even though the sensor does not go anywhere. Does anyone know what I can do to eliminate this sensor? Maybe jumper two wires together further back in the harness?

Finally, does anyone live close to Little Elm or Oak Point? I would like to be able to meet up with people that have these types of cars so we can wrench on them together. I am not opposed to using my garage, but sometimes having two people working on projects at the same time produces a more rewarding result in the end

    Thanks,

    Robert

I dont live close but my coupe is a 4 to 8 swap.I bought a big block 460 last week that im going to start on soon for it. Just remember to change the sway bar to a bigger one and you might want to ditch the 7.5 rearend for a 8.8 .

I live in Little Elm near 423 and Eldorado, and I too have a 4 -> 8 coupe. Not sure I know how to fix those issue, but wouldn't mind trying to help sometime.
