    Hello,

    I am new to this community. I hope you can point me in the right direction. I have transplanted a 87 to 93 5.0 in my 68 stang. I have gotten it running. It seems to run good but it is running rich when idling. I had the O2's wired incorrectly but I have gotten that resolved... I hope. I am using a gt-40 intake and heads that have some machine work done to them. I am running a lunati 51014 camshaft. I have the egr valve blocked off. I ran a test using a a test light to extract the codes. I was hoping someone could look at these and let me know which ones were important and how to go about fixing my rich idling problem. Here are my codes 54 31 67 81 82 85 84 95.
    The codes stored in memory were 22 31 54 95.

    The computer and harness is from a 1991 mustang. Let me if you need any more info.

      Checking codes is perhaps the most important step in diagnosing problems with your 5.0. It is free, easy, and effective. Materials Needed -a paperclip or a piece of wire approximately 3-10 inches -pen and paper *To get accurate results it is important that the car is fully warmed up Step One -Find the self-test connectors.

        Sounds like a nice setup, welcome to the board, any reputable tuner will be able to turn off the egr function and disable the codes. Also they'd tune your combination for best performance and efficacy. If the can has much overlap (choppy idle) it will run rich because the computer is operating inside its preset parameters. It won't have the ability to compensate for large duration and tight lobe separation.

          The same questions I always ask are:

          1) Why do you say it runs rich, smell?

          2) What does the wideband say?

          My guess is, this is the smell test rich scenario. Before you convince yourself it's running rich, hook a wideband up and verify it really is. Check fuel pressure (Does it have an adjustable FPR?). Check timing. Verify all the sensors, maf etc are all in working order..

          THEN worry about tuning it up.

            The smell definitely. It burns your eyes and a little smoke. It seems to run pretty good other than that. When you say hook up a wide band, what do you really mean. I am kind of new to the efi stuff. Do you think maybe it justs needs tuning. I was thinking the stock tune would be ok with this setup but maybe not. I set the timing to 14 degree. So do you think the codes that I posted are nothing to be alarmed over? I would like to thank everyone who posted back to me.

              Wideband = wideband oxygen sensor. If you have one, you can tell by what the guage says if it's running rich, or if it's your nose playing tricks on you.

              If you have an adjustable FPR, you can lean it out across the board easily. The stock tune should work fine for what you are doing.

              What size are the injectors?

                you have the egr blocked off but the sensor still needs to be plugged in ( it can be tucked away) or it will throw codes until tuned

                  I am using stock 19lb injectors. I don't have a adjustable FPR. Do you think that is something that I need or should I just get it tuned?

                    As Brooks mentioned, you should be fine with your combo and a stock tune. Borrow a wideband and buy an adjustable FPR.

                        or if you want to pay someone to dial it in for you and fix your code situation.

                        I can definitely hook you up with a nice custom chip that will provide great driveability and optimum power.

                        I also set you TP voltage - Check/Set Timing - Wideband AirFuel Readings throught the whole RPM curve not just at WOT etc.
