Need some advice, trying to figure out a way to get rid of some pinging issues. My 2002 has a Vortech V3 Si trim and is intercooled plus all supporting mods and bolt ons. I think the gas is going stale and losing octane since i only drive it once a month. So when i do get into boost and hit 4K rpms and above, i get bad pinging. However, putting a bottle of Lucas Octane booster in the tank completely cures it. So i was thinking that a Snow Perf Meth kit would take care of that issue by boosting the octane and helping out with the gas losing some octane points. I've never messed with meth kits, but would this work in my situation? And would i be able to just add a kit and not worry about re-tuning the car if all i am trying to do is just add some octane to avoid pinging?

Octane booster is your best bet in this situation. With a meth kit, you will need a retune as it is a second fuel source so your air/fuel ratio will be way rich. I have a Alkycontrol meth kit on my car and I'm running 17psi Kenne Bell non-intercooled, it's great stuff, just not with what you are intending it for.

You can spray it without tuning, but you will get the biggest benefits with a tune. The only problem is, if the system stops working for some reason after it is tuned then it can mean you need to replace your motor.
I personally have seen a gain of 16 wheel horsepower on a turbo 4 cylinder with water/alcohol injection that was not tuned.Annoying people, one post at a time!

at the very least i'd suggest putting a wideband on the car after installing and dataloggin AFR to see just how much richer it is.

Well, he doesn't even know as of yet as to what size setup he might run. It is a common misconception that you can run an alky setup and let it take care 100% of your fueling needs though. It can be done but I'm not a fan of it. But of course, it also does depend on where he is at now, and I do agree with you that running super rich can potentially be as dangerous as running super lean. I do find it funny though that some manufactures have made turbo cars run into the 9.X:1 air/fuel ratio area while under boost, stock. It doesn't sound safe to me, but it works for them. And, as you said, at the very least put a wideband in there to see where things are at both before and after.Annoying people, one post at a time!

I would. Just make sure to get the right Stabil for your application. They make it for regular gas and a different formula for ethanol blended fuels.Annoying people, one post at a time!

Meth injection is the last solution. If you decide to do it I can help you get the parts you need for cheap to do it yourself. I ran one on my '92 when I got above 15psi and I was able to get a lot more timing back into the motor, but it was a huge hassle."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

I really don't think it's the tune since I've been using the same one for 4 years with no problems. And I haven't changed anything either besides driving it a lot less. I just assumed that it was the gas causing the pinging issue since octane booster actually fixes the issue. Not sure what else could be causing this if it's not stale gas.
Do they have a small nozzle to where it is only giving me the assurance of getting my octane numbers up but not running richer to require a retune? I do have a wide band on the car so could datalog. And honestly the only reason I don't want to deal with a retune is because the only guy I trust to do it correctly is out in Baton Rouge and I don't wanna drive out there.2002 4.6L 5spd S281

I run 80% meth and 20% water through a single 14 gal/hr nozzle. I am going to step up to 2x10 gal/hr nozzles and possibly a nozzle in front of the turbine. If my meth systems fails my motor will pop, doesn't matter what buzzer or whistle I have on it, if it fails to activate its game over. But that is the price to pay to stay on 93 octane pump gas I suppose.
