  • Need help putting a price on Chevy Blocks...

Didn't want to put this in the classifieds section just yet because I have questions.

I have 3 chevy engine blocks that I need to sell (inherited from my brother) and I have no clue how to value these things to put a price on them.

Was hoping someone more knowledgeable than I could give me some guidance. I'll post the casting numbers later today... but I have the following:

    2 - 454 blocks
    1 - 302 / 350 block (casting # says it could be either)
    4 - Cylinder Heads for a 454
    1 - 454 Crankshaft

Also have some stuff I havent gone through yet, but it looks like old parts off one of his cars. He had a '69 and a '70 Camaro, so I assume the parts are related to them. He sold the cars. I know pricing can be all over the board, but I just need someone that knows about these things so I don't get f*cked on a deal!!

    Thanks!

    Ok, here's what I've got:

    2x - 361959 (454 blocks)
    1x - 3970010 (350 block)
    2x - 6272990 (454 heads)
    2x - 386781 (454 heads)
    1x - 3521 (454 crankshaft)
1x - Transmission (still in the process of identifying)

    Anyone?

      361959 (454 blocks)
Chevrolet produced casting number 361959 from 1973 to 1990, making it one of the most common of all 454-block engines. 2 bolt main , if they have the caps and are std bore 150 each.

      3970010 (350 block)
In 1968 they made 327's with this casting number but they were only 2 bolt main.
Then from 1969 - 1979 they made 350's with this number and they were either 2 or 4 bolt main. If it's a 4 bolt main, then you know it's a 350.
To determine exactly what you have, you need the block "suffix code".
It's on the front of the engine, just in front of the passenger side head. It's on a machined pad only found on that side of the engine. Run a search with the numbers you find there for more information.

      2x - 6272990 (454 heads)
hi-po head rectangular port Used on LS-6 and LS-7. Open or closed chamber pistons. Originally produced 1968-71. from what I've read, it's a open chamber head. selling for 500 each on ebay now

      386781 (454 heads)
oval port open chamber , 150 a set

      3521 (454 crankshaft)
454 FORGED crank The pricing is all over the place, adv-- $500. turned and ready to go.

take a picture of the botton of the tranny pan and we can identify it.

        Block suffix codes:

        454: TSK
        454: XCH
        350: TXD

            Response from a Chevy forum:

" I'd do some serious info digging on that XCH block, that code means it's an LS7 crate engine. It was destined to go into the early 70's Vette, but GM never did. The other two are either builders or scrap, depending on the condition. The TSK is a truck 454, the 350 is a plain old nothing 1975 350."
