  • 04 Cobra Misfire or Exhaust leak

Ok so I have a problem right now with the cobra. In idle it does fine but under load its bogging down and smells like it's running really rich. Problem is, it's not throwing a check engine light or anything. My personal mechanic has it but told me it has to either be an exhaust leak or a bad spark plug...

It started doing this when I was in WOT through 2nd then hit 3rd and started to drop power and it's been like this ever sense then. My question is does anyone have an suggestions?

Bad gas made the knock sensor pull timing?

I can't get behind an exhaust leak doing anything like that unless the o2 sensor is reading some weird shit, but that would cause a code to populate. Has he put a top notch reader on it to look at each sensor?

Bad gas did go through my mind, but I've had the same gas in it for about two weeks and started doing it at half a tank. And I believe he did, he's got a big fucking handheld thing that costs $900 so I guess that's it.

$900 handheld seems cheap, unless he got it used. However, I'm not in the industry.

Terminators are infamous for popping fuel rail pressure sensors. It typically happens under WOT, especially if it gets banged off the rev limiter. Does the oil smell like gas?

Umm, didn't get a chance to check that out but I do know that I can smell a shitload of gas coming from under the car or so.

Thing is... shouldn't it trigger a code?

Maybe your code light is out? It's a shot in the dark, but you would think if something is not right it'd be kicking codes...

                            Noway

check the plugs. I popped a fuel rail semsor it threw codes on mine.

900 for a big fancy code reader, if that's new price sounds kinda cheap. exhaust leaks seems extremely unlikely, it could have fried a plug but that would most likely set a code and a light. There are many factors that could play in and not set a check engine light. Wouldn't hurt to do a plug check, the maf could have taken a dump (doesn't always set a code if it does). A basic data check may shed some light on it. O2 readings at idle versus fast idle, cruise, wide open etc, fuel rail sensor pressure or weak pump. Long term an over or under fueling problem will eventually set a rich or lean code. Main thing is to let someone you trust with good equipment look at it. If it's a fuel problem and it's pushed hard under boost broken pistons can result, whether rich or lean.
