I'm paying close attention to this thread. I'm thinking of buying a 7.3l excursion off one of the parents at my daughter's school. The reliability and fuel economy are my main concerns. I could sure use the extra room and if it can deliver 18+mpg then I'm pretty much sold. I just know that eventually I'll have to start replacing parts since it already has near 300k!

CAI, a straight pipe ($40 at the local exhaust shop), and a tuner ($100) did wonders with MPG and power.
We have achieved 24mpg driving 55mph before....usually it's 18-20 on the highway.
Great bang for the buck and NO worries.Originally posted by BuzzoSome dudes jump out of airplanes, I fuck hookers without condoms.

I now drive 32 miles one way to work (all highway) and have been getting 21-23 mpgs all hand calculated.
Six position bullydog chip and 4" turbo down exhaust are the only mods. I also might add that I drive like a little bitch and try to keep it under 70.Whos your Daddy?

22mpg easily. I got that in my ex cab long bed (auto tranny) with 35" tires no problem if a stayed out of it.
what kind of CAI?
my experience is that these trucks hate big tires. every 7.3 I've had has averaged 12-14 mpg but they were all 4x4 with 35s on 20" wheels and a lift. the motors are bullet proof though and I'm sure a 4x2 on factory rubber would do a great deal better1971 Ford Torino - Time to go bigger and better.
