  • TFS Stage 2 Cam Valvetrain noise

Well my car sounds like a sewing machine when its at idle & more throttle faster it sounds.

Installing 1.6 Billet Erson Rockers to see if this helps. But im thinking maybe the stock Valve Springs are not letting the lifters pump up. I dont hear it on the Passenger side but its loud on drivers side

Heads are GT40P heads on stock springs. This noise was with stock rockers. Gonna change out rockers & report back. But any other suggestions

I have limited knowledge on those cams, but aren't you dealing with over .550 lift on the exhaust side? I think that you might be really close to having clearance issues with the GT40 heads. I'd be really careful.
I'm thinking some spring-bind at least?

If you are running stock explorer valve springs, I believe that would cause some float at higher rpms due to the lift that that cam has.

The ticking could be anthing from a dead lifer to a loose or broken rocker.

Baron def not a broken rocker. Got it all tore down & nothing seemed wrong with the Rockers. They all where tight & not moving. Just not sure if its a lifter or Valve Springs binding up. I think im gonna have to change out the Valve springs on these heads at the very least as I know the stock GT40P Valve springs cant live very long with this cam in it. That is if its a TFS Stage 2 cam. I will say it doesnt lope very hard at all to have a 112 lope Sep & cam being so big.

Has anyone ever changed Valve Springs with Heads still on the car. I researched the net & came up with this http://sbftech.com/index.php?topic=15607.0

Have you checked the preload on the lifters? that will cause noise if it is set up wrong.

Ok pulled the lower Intake. Im thinking im going to put these AFR 165s I have on it. I called AFR & they said their heads come with Valve Spings good to 135 Seat Pressure. The TFS Stage 2 calls for 130 Seat Pressure. If this is in fact a TFS Stage 2 cam its amazing it was running with the stock GT40P Springs, Anyways heads are coming as soon as I finishing typing this.

              Question?

Can I reuse the GT40 Head Gaskets or should I get some new Head Gaskets & if so which kind for AFR 165 Heads that will see 150 Shot

is it just me or does it look like someone coated the lifter valley, but most of it has flaked off?

Yeah I think your right Baron, It does look that way. They had some metal flake paint on the Alt Bracket. Some of this shit was way Half assed. I need to post up pics of the transmisson support Bracket, The starter makes a awful noise when you go to start it like the starter & flywheel arent lined up. Like a old Chevy started that isnt shimmed

                    Question?

What head gaskets then for AFR Heads & 150 shot

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if there are paint flakes floating around in that motor, it wont last very long. You might think about tearing it all the way down, hot tanking it, new oil pimp, lifters, rings and bearings.
