Electrical guys: any way to find out how much power my camper will need?

  • Electrical guys: any way to find out how much power my camper will need?

    Upgraded my camper, and will need a bigger generator now too.

    Is there a meter or something I can use to see how many watts this thing will use with the a/c, water pump, lights, tv, etc on so that I can start shoping?

    Add it up by items you want to run.

      Yeah I'm fed up with charts. According to that one, I need a 15kw generator, but I know that is way too much, even large diesel pusher coaches generally have half that or less.

        If you pay for the gas for me to run out there we can run a line to your camper and turn everything on and hook up my AC ammeter to and measure the current draw both running watts AND startup watts (thats where most people miscalculate because it takes a pretty good jolt to kick over most A/C units). Its a clamp on Fluke and I trust its accuracy.

            Okay...tell me when? Until I find a job I have a lot of free time unfortunately.
            Prolly ride my bike down there....makes more sense than driving a V8 4x4.

                PM me and we can set something up. It shouldn't take long to figure this out. At this time I don't see a problem but my family is dealing with some health problems with my grandmother and I may have to be involved.

                        my 32' rv has 2 ac units with a blender, waterpump, microwave, converter and lots of lights and it has a 6000 watt.
                        go to tractor supply or home depot and buy something in the 5000 watt range and give it a test drive, I'm sure it will work fine. If not, return it.

                          The camper doesnt have a built in genset, I have a little 1400w and a big (and very noisey) 5500w (8500 start) craftsman. I know the big one will run it fine, hell it would likely run two, but it is loud as hell and drinks gas.

                          Id like an inverter style, and looking at the honda line it would either be the Eu3ki or two of the 2ks. A couple friends have similar setups and have gotten away with the chinese 3500's you see for a few hundred bucks at Nothern, but since this camper is an older unit, Id like to know before I go buy one that Im not getting one too small.

                            all the single ac unit campers have a 3000-3500 watt units

                            the only down side to that one is it's not suitable for rain.
                            at 68 db it's quiet and it is a inverter unit
