  • Coolant spraying from reservoir, does not lower level in reservoir....

This is on a 2003 Civic HX. So I noticed on Thursday my temp gauge raised out of nowhere after about a 4 hour drive to San Antonio. I looked noticed coolant spray/leak on top of the transmission, lower control arm, inside the battery older and no longer spraying/dripping. So I replaced a hose clamp (thinking that was the problem) refilled the radiator, put a little in the reservoir and went about my trip. Then on the way to South Padre (about a 5.5 hours) and it started to overheat yet again. Both times after A/C was turned off is when this happened, when A/C turned on and temp gauge would lower.

Fast forward to the drive home to Fort Worth. Same thing happened at the end of the 9 hour drive. Since then I have replaced the thermostat and radiator cap, has a water pump replaced in the last 2 years or so and not leaking. All the coolant is on the passenger side. Last night engine was warm and I went to remove the radiator cap and this is where I saw the coolant finally spew out of the reservoir. After this happened I pull the cap, full reservoir and empty radiator.

Anyone have issues like this? I am at a loss now. I am thinking either clogged hose, clogged radiator or head gasket (even tho no discolored oil or white smoke). I feel like the black death of cars here lately with things going nuts. I NEED SOME DAMN HELP! lol

Low speed on the fan has taken a shit? High speed seems to be working just fine with the a/c being on.

I don't think these fans are stock and it's a dual fan setup. Ive never heard the fans kick on at idle but both kick on with the a/c. How do I test is the low speed is bad?

Test the fan switch first since you know both fans spin. I'll bet its the radiator stopped up tho.

If coolant is spewing out of the reservoir without the car being overheated, the head gasket has likely blown. The cylinder compression is pressurizing the coolant, causing it to blow out.

This is the conclusion we have come to. Taking it to a shop in the morning for an estimate. Thinking about $1000. I would do it myself but a lot of people say its close to a 2 day job with al the shit you have to take off and put back on. I dont want to mess with it.

Im rusty on my Honda facts, however i know up until 2000 Honda had two fans, one of the radiator and one for the condensor, as the radiator and condensor were side by side.
