  • Body techs--- driver's door adjustment?

I'm trying to adjust the driver's door on my '69... need to come down slightly (1/8") at the rear edge and in at the bottom.

This thing is kickin' my ass (working by myself), I need about three more hands or a skinny contortionist to get in there to tighten the thing up while holding it in position.

Any tips on how to proceed would be appreciated.

paint stir sticks in the door jam, if you can get to it with the door shut
    pinto gt with wood trim

I really need the front fender taken off and outta' the way... but what a PITA that would be.

On those big heavy doors you really do need to take off the fender IF you don't have body tools. If you have the right tools and air you can use jacks and jack stands to get you where you need to be. Make sure that your hinges are new or that your brass bushings have not worn out before adjusting.

+1 to Henry's comments about the hinges, pins, and bushings.

Panel alignment is a hard thing to watch when it's your own car!

I can't get the upper hinge to move on the A pillar... I'm taking the fender off for better access.

Driver's side fender was slightly too far back as it was, this will give me a chance to
get it back in the proper place as well. Probably needs to come forward about 1/8" and in at the top slightly.

My guess is that I'll have the other side off too before this is all said & done.

When the fenders off it makes adjustment that much easier, you can also close (striker at 0 adj) the door, then all you have to do is losen the three bolts and adjust. Most two door cars circa 1987 and back are too heavy to be screwing around with open ended wrenches and the fender not removed.

              Good luck Mardyn.

                I'm a dumb ass...

Front fender off = three bolts holding the door hinges to the lower A pillar... Not only two (that I could see).

Should be a lot easier to move around tomorrow.

and all I really wanted to do was just make a slight door adjustment.... I guess if were easy, everybody
                would do it.
