Pinging - stale gas?

Been having pinging issues this summer, trying to figure out the cause since nothing has changed on the car for the past few years and it's never done it before. I rarely get to drive the car anymore, maybe once a month or two. Yesterday it was pinging pretty noticeably in upper rpm of third and fourth gear, so I put in a can of Lucas octane booster and a fresh tank of 93 octane gas. Pinging went away completely. Do you think that it could be just stale gas causing pinging?

Yes, defiantly can be the cause.

Cause the dist. is loose and has turned.

Is using gas stabilizer safe for cars and does it help?
