  • Finally got it!

If you dont remember, I posted a while back about getting this car with a rod knock.

    Started pulling the engine yesterday.

Question, once I remove the intake manifold, where can I attach a chain for the engine host? I'm pulling the intake because I can't see what is behind it...

Going out the top. First 4.6 I've put my hands on.

I use the 2 bolt holes above the water pump in the block (8mm thread), and empty bolt holes on rear of head (on my 4 valve, not sure if 2 valve is same)

Thanks, I did see the b/h under the alt. I'll check out back after work.

Yep same here, except a truck b/c the chain hits cowl till motor moved forward, so i wrap chain around center exhaust manifold and pull it forward enough to hook straps/chain on rear bolt holes.

I just noticed last night while removing the starter (top bolt on starter was missing BTW), that there is a plate about diameter of the a/c pully that is completely loose. This plate is in infront of the a/c pulley, but behind another smaller plate that is holting it in place. The thing just jiggles around freely.

          Is the a/c clutch bad?

Also, is the starter ok with just having the two lower bolts holding it in place??
Looks to have been replaced once before.

If any parts came off that car to have new ones in. Some bolts will be missing as they are a pain to put back in. Which is why youll be missing some bolts. One for the alt and another for the a/c. Usually people dont put one of those bolts back it.

Wow, it would have took you less time to remove four hood bolts than it did to get a ladder and tie that hood to the covered parking frame.

Didn't need a ladder at all, and didn't have anyone to help move it.

As for plans, I've got a clean and low mile engine out of an 03 lincoln thats going back in. So nothing special.

I'm going to go ahead a replace the clutch and have the flywheel re surfaced, as well as replace the motor mounts while its all out.

I thought about it, but for the gains/ power increase for what I will be doing with the car,
just not the right move for now.

All I want to do it drive it and make it look presentable to sell at a later date.
