    that shit should be illegal
Taking profits off people that don't want to do the work themselves should be illegal? Adam Smith is rolling over in his grave.

NOS parts have a 10 year shelf life. Basically, unless it's something that is in really high demand, OEMs tend to only honor a 10-year stock on a discontinued part. You have to get lucky, maybe find someone on eBay selling a NOS dryer and compressor. A dealership isn't going to strand a car in an AC/driveability tech's bay... a service bay that basically has a $$$-per-hour rate. If it's an obsolete part, they'll call the customer and explain it and find parts however they can. Customer has the choice.

There's a few board members on here that do a/c work(myself included). Iv done lots of side jobs for board members for the past 6-7 years and no one has had any issue yet(at least they havent told me or posted about it). There's some good techs on the board that can easily handle that job and do good work.

The reason it really caught my attention was the fact they had just quoted me like 1100+ for a brake job on my 95 F350, quoting Ford parts.

Well done. I'm ok with having someone work on my junk. I'm not 20 and eager to hurt my back anymore.

Hey Matt, give tim a call tomorrow, he can get you the number for a shop we use regularly for a/c stuff. They do top notch work and take extremely good care of everything we have sent them. Couple the guys there are hot rodders also. I plan to take my car there once its on the road to get the a/c fixed up.

That age it will probably be napa or autozone etc parts own usually stop making after 10 years. I would not take a car that age to a dealer the guys that worked on them when new won't want the job a blow it off to a guy who was in diapers when it came out.

I have sold parts to dealers. With the economy the way it is now, SOME dealerships give the customers different options on cost and warranties also. They quote all OEM parts for $xx.xx and OEM REPLACEMENT for $xx.xx. This way they have a chance at getting some work instead of none. It CAN be a win-win if the customer is properly informed.

                      Just FYI

Reemo can do it for sure, and my neighbor is an AC guy too - That's all he does is install classic air/vintage air a/c systems.

If it's an aftermarket warranty, the warranty will specify the parts going onto the vehicle and the Ford House has to follow the warranty policy.
