  • I want a sand rail / buggy.. learn me on them.

I know the 1600+ cc vw setups are ideal, but beyond that it's all greek to me. I'd love a little 2 or 4 seater with some pep.. but nothing ridiculous.

Which engine is easiest to get parts for? which will be the most responsive to upgrades?

more importantly, what kind of things do i need to check when looking at one. I don't know anything about the transmissions on these, i assume it's just a transverse like on small fwd cars?

The turbo rail that a board member built was pretty awesome. Ive always wanted one.

Lason, no? I'm thinking about thinning out the herd a little, probably ridding myself of the stunt bike (05 636) and the yz125 and maybe a ski or two. then i can pick up a rail and a 250 and call it quits...for a while.

Just want to know what to expect to pay for one, what features are really desired, etc etc.

Took a load of junk to the scrap yard today, and someone had tossed a nearly complete VW engine. Long story short, a late 50's 36hp 1200cc Bug engine followed me home. I have no idea why, other than it is cute.

Like the one pictured here, but much more dirty and rusty:
