My 98 GT's voltage fluctuates a lot depending on what I have on and if I'm driving our idling. Is this normal or is my alternator dying?

Turns out I had a vacuum leak that was causing the idle to fluctuate. Fixed that and it idles like it should but now I have some driving issues. How can you tell if the torque converter is taking a shit? If I'm just cruising and maintaining speed it will hesitate and sputters if I give it more gas it will stop.
