  • 408 vs aftermarket 302 block

Which one would be more cost effective? And hold reliable power? I am leaning toward the stroker.
I will write my plan for the car, but in my head is as follows.
Slap my gt40p heads, gt40 intake, tfs1 cam etc on til I order a turbo. (Boost bros) upper and lower control arms etc.
Turbo my gt40p setup 302 to 450rwhp and ride on that while I put together the 408 as basically all new engine with 205 Afr heads etc.
And possibly use same turbo to get the power to 700rwhp.
this car will be my daily on drag radial.
Does this sound like a good plan? I rather know now early cause I think about this every idle second I have in my mind. Thanks for reading
And you may notice, I don't start many threads at all because I research my ass off everyday. Every spare second. Everything has been done before and solved so no need to ask again. I like reading others posts just learning, and I get obsessed with researching.

If you have been researching your ass off you will have already realized that having a modified toy for a daily driver is a bad idea. It will be broken down every time that you need it, you will work on it daily, it won't ever run right, it will be a huge money pit, and you will be asking friends / family members to take you everywhere. Your boss at work is only going to be patient with you so many times when you come in late and say that your car broke down (again).

Get a used Honda for a daily driver.

Get the 408, it will do what you are looking for.

          This.

.....and, I might add, if the turbo you use on a 302 will work on the 408 then it will either spool super slow on the 302 or create a shit ton of heat on the 408.

Keep researching, get a better plan, and gain some patience.

Well I've decided for the 408. I will try to come as close to 500rwhp with no power adder and rise like that for a while.
And why would it magically break down when I've rebuilt it.
I'm not planning to go cross country or anything, I mainly drive in town few bikes a day under normal circumstances.

If you use good parts you can daily drive a hot rod. I daily drive my cobra 500+ miles a week. I very rarely work on it. Prolly makes 400hp NA.

Are you gonna run a 408 with GT40P heads?

I have a 408 in my mustang, and 500 HP is no issue. You could go higher on the compression to add more HP. 408 seems like to much of a stroke for a Turbo but I've never messed with them so don't really know, I'm sure someone else can speak to that.

Buy a second car or a motorcycle, or better yet a bicycle depending how far you are from work.

Id do a dart block 302.

what block would you be using for the 408?

stock 351 blocks walk the caps above 650.

Nope I would use the Afr 225 heads.
Thanks for the warning , I will aim for 600 or less.
How much is the dart block 302 you mention ?

What can be done to an F4TE block to make it 750 hp capable? How do you fix the cap issue?

it needs a dart block to last
