what are symptoms of failed inbound cv joint ?

Grinding, popping when its turning, if the boot is torn and grease is slung out, its game to come apart anytime. Any doubt, replace that mofo, they are cheap. What kind of vehicle?

It's an 06CR-V w/ 75k. It has developed a knock when accelerating that feels like a miss but all cyl are firing. I'm sure its not an outer since there is no popping when turning.

I had an Acura Legend that did that. Couldn't figure out what it was. Was driving back from Austin when I knew it HAD to be drivetrain related. Sure enough, it was the inward (in the tranny) joint. Didn't know it until it was out.

The only thing that bugs me, is it seems early for a Honda failure. My legend had about 110k on it.
I went ahead and replaced both sides. I didn't want that to happen again.

the mileage is probably 85 percent city driving and I drive unreasonably hard.

Does this look like the bearing where the intermediate shaft and axle join has failed or the inner cv?

BTW, there's no play on the tranny side of that bearing where they join, only on the axle side. This is what leads me to believe it's the axle.

I found an exploded view of it. The play is on the axle side between axle and the bearing @ #24. If there's no play on the solid piece of the half shaft but there is on the cv side, would that indicate the cv's bad or the bearing? :grrr:
