    My daughter needs tires on her truck 245-70-17. I found a good set if 285-70-17. Will these work for her truck. Its a 06 or 07 Chevy 1/2 ton.

    They will fit in the rim and look pretty good, but your speedometer will be off. The first number is the width in mm, the second number is the aspect ratio or percentage of the width. So a 245/70/17 would be 245mm wide and height would be 171.5mm. On the 285/70/17, the width is 285mm and 199.5mm in height if that makes sense.

      They will be wider and quite a bit taller...

      245/70 - 30.5" Diameter
      285/70 - 32.7" Diameter

      Speedo will read about 4mph too slow. Speedo at 60, she will actually be going 64...

          Its also going to change the effective gearing. She'll have less power, but will get better MPG (assuming you calibrate the speedo/odometer you'll really see it).

            You can go to the Discount Tire website and they have an info section that will let you plug in tires sizes and give you mph changes.
