  • Installed a Large Air/Air Intercooler Today

In my 93 Lightning. Overall it wasn't too bad, but I still have to get some aluminum pipe welded tomorrow and get the flange for the HPX meter welded in place. Took a couple pics of the progress. I'll upload in just a second.

Should have the pipe back today. I installed a 2.85" blower pulley allong with the 8" crank pulley in an 8 rib setup. I saw 16.8 pounds at 5000 RPM before I started this project. I think I'll lose about 2-3 pounds through the cooler but by 5500 RPM I should still see 15-16 pounds. I'm overspinning the Vortech by just a little to 52,300 rpm's, but it should be fine with the cooler.

I'll race anyone in here from 0-90 but we both have to be towing a 5500# trailer. Ha ha ha! I am having a fuel issue in 1st gear that I need to get sorted out as well. I command .78 Lambda from 100% load and up, but in 1st gear only I get a Lambse of .85. Once in 2nd it goes right to .78.

Everything is mocked up. Now I need to install the Turbosmart BOV, a couple more matching hose clamps, and I'll be down the road.

No it's their 30 or 40mm recirculating valve. I'm going to upgrade to the Vortech Mondo or the Big Red Procharger valve soon. I no longer need to recirculate since I changed to a blow through setup. I'll spend next week retuning it.

That is a clean survivor. How many miles are on it?
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

156K. It got rearended a couple months ago. Just got it back from the body shop a weekand a half ago. It's a daily driver so she has rock chips and stuff, but cleans up pretty darn well.

Mine is an ETS (http://www.extremeturbosystems.com/) core is 24"x12"x5"thick with 3" inlet and outlet. Took a little modifying to get it to fit the car and clear the impact bar. You can't see it in the pics, but the lower portion of the impact bar has a curved piece of steel plate that I molded and welded in, then cut out and shaped the foam to fit it. It allows the air to enter at the bottom and be pushed/drawn towards the top of the Intercooler.
