  • Cleaning oxidized aluminum?

    Got my 3G installed, it's off a 96 taurus.

The casing is oxidized and looks dull, how can I bring it back to looking decent?

I don't mind painting it, but just wanted to see what my options were!

    Thanks fellas'

    Love,
    Mike

            Where can I get that?

I'd remove the guts, that's not an issue.

Have you priced a reman alternator at Vatozone? Maybe you could carefully wire wheel it?

Reman at the zone is 150-170$ - place in town will rebuild for $80.

I told them it works fine, just dirty. They said they could rebuild it for $80 one more time.

Where can I get alternator parts? I may just do it all myself.

If they are going to disassemble a used alternator, most shops will want to rebuild it. Imagine some kid coming in with a 3G alternator asking you to pull it apart and 'clean it up', and the kid comes back 4 weeks later crying about the tow bill and the alternator is shot. It's insurance for them and isn't a bad idea anyways if you're going to take it apart.

Yeah I understand that, it's not a bad deal.

Btw, simple green did the trick.

Will be installing a new battery tray today, and eventually relocating to the trunk.

Here in about month if all goes well, I'll be removing the entire front clip and hiding wires and cleaning up the engine bay to look less crowded. Im also planning on relocating the alternator down beside the crank pulley and installing an electrical water pump, since I now have the extra amperage. Woot!

What is that black cable running across the front of the motor?

Msd cap and rotor were cheaper then stock replacement, plus brass terminals. Those are Taylor wires.

Battery hold down, works, stock one cracked in half.

                              Alternator power wire.

Its ghetto, the 60inch I had bought was too short to work the way I wanted, so I have that one until I can get a longer one to run in front of the radiator like stock.
