    How much were those tunes?

Free if you bought the SCT from them. Just e-mailed the door code with mods and they take a guess at it. I had the tune checked out and it wasn't too bad.

At idle, Did the sound seem to match engine speed or did it seem slower? I would lean towards a possible lifter issue.

LMAO! Poor Dan has had the worst luck with these motors. Def a good guy, But I would hate to have to pull the motor let alone pay the labor. But if your gonna pay a shop. HPP is the shop. Manny always told me. Seb get a 4V motor. I have yet to take his advice. But if I do! I know where I will take it to get it tuned

It was slower like we only heard it when that particular cylinder fired. Is a lifter an easy problem to test for?

Yes , but it requires pulling the valve cover off. Lifter failure is extremely common with all mod motors, 2v included.

Well they definitely had the valve cover off. They even checked the cylinders with a camera.

You didn't happen to race 91coupeMike last night did you?

Doesn't sound like the tune is causing the issue since it happens at idle and there is no way, even if the pumps are down on output, that you would have a lean condition at idle all of a sudden when it's never been an issue before...

I used my snap on camera down the cylinders of my 4 valve when it had problems time before last, couldn't tell a whole lot witj it. I knew there were bottom end problem, pulled motor sent to builder and he sent me three broken pistons. The camera can't see the ring lands as Dan stated. I have 3 cylinders with 30 psi right now and camera doesn't give any indication of the problem looking down plug holes but it'll be piston or ring issues again I'm fairly certain.

mine was\is combination of high boost, combination issues, and tuning problems. I'm fairly certain that with a mostly stock setup i'd have been trouble free.

4v motors are just fine SEB. They are just like any motor out there when parts break things go South. Most of the time everything runs great but with miles on them and abuse things will break. I'm lucky enough to know how to fix almost everything on my car my self if something breaks on it, but I don't drive my car like grandma either so I do expect things to break every so often.

^^ this, a leakdown and compression test will give a better indication.

Leakdown and compression indicated my problem for sure.
